UNIVERSITY OF LONDON

University Of London

Founded in 1836, the university ab initio comprised merely a pair of colleges: University college London, that previously had no official employed standing and didn't apply spiritual tests to its students, and King's college, that had been employed since 1829 which admitted entirely members of the Church of European country.

In 1858, the university expanded   its role by giving the University of London International Programmes to candidates outside of the colleges, the first of its kind among the country. a current headquarters at half-dozen city Gardens, providing the university with examination halls and offices, was designed to accommodate the new role.

In 1878, the University set another first once it became the first university among the dominion to admit ladies on equal terms with men. Four female students obtained Bachelor of Arts degrees in 1880 and a pair of obtained Bachelor of Science degrees in 1881, over again the first among the country.[4]

In 1898, part as a response to criticisms of universities that merely served as centres for the administration of tests, and entails analysis and education to be further central functions of universities, the first University of London Act was passed, reforming the university and giving it responsibility for observation course content and tutorial standards among its institutions.

The observation was conducted through recently intentional centralised faculties and Boards of Studies, and King's and UCL presently became constituent components of the University of London. A symbolic part to the new centralisation of the university was the actual fact that UCL property became property of the University of London.[5] This very important growth of role meant the University over again needed additional house, and so half-dozen city Gardens was vacated in 1899.
