Albert Gallatin, Secretary of Treasury beneath u. s. President and President of the u. s., declared his intention to determine "in this Brobdingnagian and invasive city ... a system of rational and smart education fitting for all and graciously opened to all". A three-day long "literary and scientific convention" management in hall in 1830 and attended by over 100 delegates debated the terms of an inspiration for a spanking new university.
Albert Francis Charles Augustus Emmanuel Gallatin was electoral as a result of the institution's first president.
